Bio

I'm an easy-going and gregarious engineering student with a strong work ethic. I believe collaborative learning is an underutilised tool, which, used effectively, enhances learning and makes it fun.

It is important to be that one has a passion and a good grasp of whatever they are trying to teach. What is even more important, however, is empathy. Too often I've had teachers and lecturers who clearly are experts in their field, but are unable to relay info to students. Since I began tutoring I have made it a priority to ensure that information is presented in a format palatable to all.

Education

• 2021 - 2022: MSc Eng
• 2017 - 2020: BSc Eng (Hons) Chemical Engineering
• 2016 - Present: Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Accounting private tutor.

My Proudest
Achievements

• Two achievements that stand out for me are:
• 1. Placing in the top 25 of the SAASTA national science olympiad in my final year of school.
• 2. Being given the opportunity to lead a prestigious school as Head Boy.

Subjects

  • School Tutoring

Chemistry

Grade 1 - Grade 12 Cambridge

I completed Cambridge A level chemistry in High School and carried on with this into varsity. Completed the first two years of Chemistry major as part of my Chemical Engineering degree, earning marks above 85%.

Mathematics

Grade 1 - Grade 12 Cambridge

Strong affinity for numbers led to my University acceptance for both Actuarial Science and Chemical Engineering at UCT. My detail-orientated nature has often led to me getting caught up in the finer details. However, a major result of this is taking pride in explaining concepts slowly and clearly.

Physical Science

Grade 1 - Grade 12 Cambridge

A passion for science has enabled me to make effective use of audio-visual learning techniques to explain challenging concepts to tutees. On average, this has helped increase the marks of physical science students I've tutored by 25%. A good measure of a students' understanding is teaching others.

Chemistry

First Year CEM1000W (Chemistry 1)

My passion for chemistry has enabled me to make effective use of diagrams and visual representations to explain challenging concepts to tutees previously. On average, this has helped increase the marks of students I've tutored by 20%. A true measure of comprehension is explaining clearly to others.

Chemical Engineering

First Year

I currently tutor core chemical engineering modules, from first through to final year. Having graduated from UCT in this field in 2020, I'm well aware of the current demands of a Chemical Engineering undergraduate degree. This has helped yield tremendous success in tutoring undergraduates.
