Bio
I am a mechanical engineering student at UCT with experience teaching English in Russia and China, to both children and adults. I love helping learners achieve their goals and build their confidence.
I am passionate about people, different cultures and learning. I love to help others, and want to be able to contribute to society in the best way I know how (by teaching). I am a patient, kind person, who is good at building learners' confidence, but also at challenging learners who need to extend themselves.
Education
• 2015 - 2016, BMus
• 2016 - Present, BSc Engineering (Mechanical) at UCT
• 2017 - 2018, taught English as a foreign language in St Petersburg, Russia, and Shenzhen, China
My Proudest
Achievements
• Being able to teach a class-full of grade-one, Chinese-speaking children for six months without assistance is one of my proudest achievements! It was so rewarding seeing how much the children learnt, but also seeing how much I had grown in the process of teaching them.
Subjects
Mathematics
Grade 1 - Grade 12 IEBI have tutored maths at a high school level before, and really enjoy engaging with it. I'm good at explaining new concepts to students, but I also love challenging students that are perhaps more proficient and are looking to extend themselves.
Physical Science
Grade 1 - Grade 12 IEBPhysics is one of my favourite subjects, and I think loving a subject can make teaching it to others, especially those who aren't crazy about it, much more rewarding. I am patient with explanations, building understanding and building confidence.
English
Grade 1 - Grade 12 IEBI have a passion for teaching English. I loved it during high school, and loved it even more when I spent a year in Russia and China teaching it as a foreign language to small children. I enjoy engaging with the creative side of English.
Afrikaans
Grade 1 - Grade 10 IEBI am good at teaching foundation concepts, word order and grammar to junior school and high school students that are particularly struggling with the basics, or just lack confidence.
Geography
Grade 1 - Grade 12 IEBI am good at teaching an understanding of the more difficult aspects of geography - reading maps, using logic and problem solving skills to solve problems - but am equally as excited about learning about the environment and how it functions.
